Getting Down to Basics: Prep Site for Landscape
February 17, 2024
The importance of creating harmony between the built environment and the ground it interacts with is critically important. Today, we took the first steps as we readied our site at John Rex Charter School in Oklahoma City, for steel edging and gravel base installation next week.
Using stakes and lines, we mapped out the area we’re working on. With these simple tools, we marked out the boundaries of the primary gardening zone we’re about to transform. This area will provide a level and stable surface for the floor of the greenhouse and classroom as well as to serve as a clean base for the raised beds located adjacent to the building.
It was a cold, windy day out on the site, but we all had good energy and got the job done! It’s just stakes and lines for now, but they’re the foundation for something big. With each stake we hammered in and each line we stretched out, we could start to see the potential of the space coming into focus.
Next up? Steel edging and gravel base. It might not look like much yet, but every great project starts with a clear idea and some basic groundwork!
Stay tuned as we dive deeper into our landscape work next week
