Ninety Tons: New Gravel Surface @ John Rex Urban Farming Lab

February 26, 2024

Renegade Design+build students from the Gibbs College of Architecture complete a monumental project: pouring and installing a 90-ton gravel base for the Urban Farming Lab at John Rex Charter School.

Precision Grading

Central to the process is meticulous site grading, requiring both technical expertise and physical effort. Students navigate the terrain with precision to ensure uniformity and stability in the final foundation.

Leveling the Base

Achieving a level gravel base is crucial. Through precise calibration of earthmoving equipment and meticulous attention to detail, students distribute the gravel evenly to create a smooth surface, free from irregularities that could compromise integrity and consistency.

Teamwork in Action

There’s a time to think and there’s a time to get after it. As the gravel base takes form, design+build students demonstrate the power of manual labor and teamwork. Their commitment to excellence and dedication to construction highlight their shared vision of architectural innovation and sustainable design.

Effective Project Management

Project management is essential for coordinating materials, equipment, and labor. With clear communication and focus, students ensure seamless execution of tasks, meeting deadlines and optimizing resources for maximum efficiency.

The Journey Continues

Stay tuned as the design+build journey unfolds at John Rex Charter School. Every shovel of gravel symbolizes the resilience and determination of the Renegade Design+Build community. From pouring to leveling, from grading to project management, together we lay the groundwork for architectural excellence.
