The foundation is the bedrock upon which structural integrity rests. At the forefront of this work, Design+Build students at the Gibbs College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma continue their through concept to creation, as they learn the art of designing, fabricating, and drilling foundation footings.

Precision in Planning

Guided by careful calculations and analysis, students ensure that each footing is drilled to the appropriate depth, considering factors like soil composition, load-bearing requirements, and local building codes. With the help of powerful augers and plenty of elbow grease, they lay the groundwork for a sturdy foundation.

Attention to Detail

As the footings begin to take shape, focus shifts to leveling the formwork — a critical step in maintaining consistency and alignment. Through precise laser level measurements and minute adjustments, students guarantee that the formwork is perfectly level before pouring concrete.

Reinforcing Strength

Adding an extra layer of structural support, students fabricate rebar cages with precision. They meticulously weave together steel bars to reinforce the concrete, enhancing its tensile strength and durability.

Setting anchor bolts completes the foundation assembly. Students embed these crucial components into the freshly poured concrete, ensuring they are securely positioned to anchor structural elements.
