Surveying for Opportunity: Site Analysis for Sunhive Collective
August 28, 2024
To start off the semester strong, Design+Build students survey the site at Sunhive Collective Inc., equipped with sketchbooks, measuring tools, and surveys. They observe and document the site’s unique spatial characteristics, focusing on sustainable design elements and innovative construction techniques. Engaging with the Sunhive team, they take notes on the collaborative workspace’s eco-conscious philosophy, integrating these insights into their academic projects.
Testing Out Survey Tools
Students learn about site surveying tools to understand how to measure and analyze land accurately. These tools help students assess site topography, dimensions, and environmental factors. The purpose of this training is to ensure they collect accurate data and address practical constraints like zoning, access, and site-specific challenges.
Considering Environment & Site Context
It’s important for architecture students to consider the environment and site context to create designs that harmonize with natural surroundings, address local climate and topography, and meet community and ecological needs sustainably. Within this site, students considered the slightly uneven terrain, accessible pathways, and rain water harvesting systems.
