Working Vertically: Blocking and Wall Construction
February 3, 2025
During vertical construction, blocking plays a crucial role in reinforcing the structure, providing stability, and ensuring proper load distribution. Using 2x4s, Design+Build students installed blocking to strengthen connections, prevent movement, and support the overall integrity of the framework as construction progressed.
Structural Support
Door Installation
Blocking with 2x4s was essential in forming and reinforcing the door headers, providing crucial support for the structural load above each opening. Design+Build students carefully installed the blocking to ensure stability, proper weight distribution, and a secure framework for the doors, maintaining the integrity of the vertical construction.
Attaching Sheathing
OSB sheathing is a critical component of the framing and vertical structure, providing strength, rigidity, and stability to the building. It helps distribute loads evenly, enhances resistance to lateral forces like wind, and creates a solid surface for attaching exterior finishes. Design+Build students carefully installed the OSB sheathing to reinforce the structure and ensure durability throughout the build.
